Jamster! - Polyphonic Ringtones, Colour Wallpapers and more for your phone
Are they really free? You always see those ads, but where's the catch? Many times it's a buy one get one free type deal, or you may have to subscribe for premium services, which will cost you a lot of money, often before you even realize it. However, if you're careful, it is possible to find truly free ringtones out there.
It used to be that free ringtones were more readily available, and there are still a few keypress ringtones around – types which you just enter into your phone by the phones composer module. These were most popular with Nokia and Motorola phones, but you can get free ringtone converters to change these keypress codes for other types of manufacturers.
Next, it was polyphonic ringtones, which are made up of multiple channels to give you a more realistic sound. These are really midi files, available on the Internet. You can simply search “midi files” to find your favorite songs, then upload them to your phone with a datacable, infra-red or bluetooth connection. You can also upload files to some sites' WAP servers, then download your polyphonic ringtones to your cell phone.
The free ringtones you see today are largely MP3 ringtones, also known as real sound ringtones. There is a lot of software out there that will help you, and you can edit your MP3 files so it sounds like you want it. You can cut out the intro, or the chorus, or other sections you don't want to hear, and you can adjust the volume and cut and paste a text file if you'd like.
