HDTV's are becoming more affordable in every screen size. There are many bargain brands of HDTV on the market, however, you may feel more comfortable going with a big brand name like Sony or Panasonic. While some bargain brand televisions perform exactly the same as the better known brands, others will be very poor quality. Do your research online before you opt for a bargain brand to save a few bucks.

Do your purchasing online, if possible. With HDTV's, you'll generally find lower prices when you shop online. That doesn't mean you shouldn't look around in person at a store, as you can then see picture quality and try out various HDTV models and functions in person. Before you checkout of the online store with your new HDTV, look into the return and shipping policy. Also, buy your HDMI cable online rather than getting suckered into an expensive one at the store. They perform the same, and an online HDMI cable will cost you far less.

HDTVs come with one of three highest resolution capabilities: 720p, 1080i, and 1080p. The ‘p’ stands for progressive scan, while the ‘i’ stands for interlaced. You'll see 1080p resolution most places these days, and it is the best choice. 720p is a viable option that will cost you less and will be fine for most content, however, it's not suitable for Blu-ray or other high definition broadcasts that are becoming more common.

Picture quality is obviously of the utmost importance when choosing any big screen TV. One TV might look great when displaying full HD, but fail with standard definition or a Blu-ray movie. To help combat this disappointment, read as many online reviews as you can, and make sure you really try out  the HDTV for yourself when you're in the store.
