Toys For Tots

Every year there are new toy trends: remember way back it was Cabbage Patch Kids, Furbies, then Tickle Me Elmo and Bratz Dolls. Each season brings with it a new must have toy, and Black Friday deals are the perfect way to find the lowest prices on popular kids toys.

It's no surprise that many of the top toys are Internet or video game related in 2009. Toys like Webkinz incorporate the virtual world into toys by providing links to their website so children can go and play games. For older, more tech-savvy kids, games for the iTouch and iPhone will also be hot items, though these are a form of “virtual gifts,” rather than traditional toys.

Like other years, toys based on movies and video games will be on many wishlists. This year has seen blockbusters like Star Trek, GI Joe, Transformers II, X-Men Wolverine and Terminator, which all have numerous action figures and related toys.

Green toys will start to make their way to the toy shelves: toys that utilize organic and recyclable materials. However, we won't really see a push for green toys for another year or two, as there are only a few smaller environmentally friendly toy manufacturers.

With the recession, people will be on the lookout for money-saving specials, so lower priced toys (under $25) will be what parents are searching the stores for. Predictions for this year's Black Friday and holiday season are that retailers will opt to stock toys that have proven track records, such as movie and video game toys, and well known brands like Hannah Montana, High School Musical and Dora the Explorer.
