Which type of television is better: plasma TV or LCD? It's a complicated question, with many different factors. You're basically choosing between two competitors with pretty similar features. Plasma screens consist of hundreds of thousands of pixel cells, which allow electric pulses to excite natural gases-usually xenon and neon. This causes them to glow and produce light. LCD screens have a matrix of thin film transistors, which supply voltage to cells filled with liquid, which are between two sheets of glass.

While LCD TV's have traditionally lasted longer due to their composition, many plasma tv's are now on par with LCD screen life, depending on the manufacturer quality. Price and resolution are the same for LCD and plasma.

Advantages of Plasma TV: Plasma TV's have better picture quality when it comes to normal to low room lighting conditions, and score higher in most picture quality categories. Plasma TV's are available in bigger sizes, and production costs are lower.

Advantages of LCD TV: LCD monitors are better for bright room environments, such as a sunroom or retail store. LCD technology is not prone to screen burn-in, while static images on a plasma TV will begin to permanently burn the color being shown into the glass display. However, there have been a lot of improvements in this area in terms of anti-burn technology, so the gap between LCD and plasma is really narrowing.
