Meijer was founded in Michigan in the 1930s by Hendrik Meijer, a Dutch immigrant who was motivated to make a career change after witnessing the Great Depression. In 1962, Hendrick's son Fredreick invented the idea of a mega-store that specializes in a variety of areas. Meijer's sells high-quality groceries, clothing sections for men, women and children, shoes, school supplies, camping and outdoor recreation equipment, health and beauty products, fitness equipment, luggage, pet supplies, and much more.
